The focus is on the pedagogical accompaniment of the individual process of vocational orientation in the context of disability and disadvantage. The support, which is provided in interprofessional and institutional cooperation, is intended to enable young people to choose a career and plan their lives on the basis of their potential and interests, and to prepare them for participation in vocational training and employment. Against this background, vocational orientation concepts are analysed in terms of the extent to which they are compatible with the heterogeneous biographies and life situations of young people and reflect the institutional barriers to accessing the selective and segmented training and employment system. In view of the transition risks that exist over and above special educational needs, a broad understanding of inclusion is advocated that addresses all young people threatened by exclusion from vocational training and employment. This should reflect the intersectional interaction of various heterogeneity dimensions, especially disability, social origin, gender and migration, in the context of the transitions during adolescence and young adulthood.
