The joint project of the Department of Speech and Language Pedagogy & Therapy (Leibniz University Hannover), the INENSUS GmbH (Goslar) and the North-Eastern Diocese of the Evangelical Lutheran Church Tanzania (NED-ELCT) has been successfully completed. The project directed by Prof. Dr. Ulrike Lüdtke and coordinated by Dipl.-Päd. Kirsten Beta was funded by the Ministry of environment, energy and climate protection of Lower Saxony. The aim of the project was the installation of solar back-up systems for long-lasting and sustainable generation of clean electric energy at three pedagogical institutions of the NED-ELCT in Irente. After set-up of a photovoltaic system at the Irente Children´s Home in 2017, similar systems were installed at Irente Rainbow School and Irente School for the Blind in summer 2019. In all institutions the independent and reliable access to power supports led to a significant improvement of everyday educational activities and the living circumstances of the children. Through the unlimited access to power, the time spent for tasks like collecting firewood or hand washing laundry can now be used for direct interaction and pedagogic work with the children. In addition, advantages have been noted on ecologic, medical and financial levels.
