The Hochschul-Ambulanz offers students theory-based practical training focusing on language and communication with specially equipped rooms. In addition to linking practice and teaching, the core area is closely linked to research projects.

The research area Language - Interaction - Participation at LUH investigates the role and function of multimodal communication in social interactions from a conversation analytic and sociological perspective in SpeechLab, family, daycare, classroom and speech therapy.

The Support and Learning Centre (FLOH) is a learning workshop and a working space for students and teachers at the Institute of Special Education. Here, study contents can be worked on and jointly developed with the help of a wide variety of current materials and media. The workshop library, the collection of teaching materials and the lending out of materials for AAC (AAC Lending Section) are available for this purpose.

The Test Resources Library (Testothek) makes available psychological testing procedures with a focus on educational-psychological diagnostics in childhood and adolescence. These can be borrowed for 10 days by staff and students of the Institute of Special Education.
