Field of work neurology: neurologically induced speech, language and communication disorders

Stage Image Stage Image Stage Image

Speech, language and communication disorders following neurological diseases (e.g. sleep apnoea, traumatic brain injury, Parkinson's disease or multiple sclerosis) often affect people in the prime of life and impair their ability to participate in and lead their normal lives: Familiar situations such as holding conversations, dealing with correspondence, shopping or leisure activities suddenly present unexpected difficulties and hurdles – for those affected, their relatives and the specialist staff caring for them.

At our Hochschul-Ambulanz, we therefore cater to all target groups and offer services for those affected, their relatives and students of speech-language therapy and inclusive education.

Current vacancies in the field of neurology

  • Aphasia self-help group

Student work in the Hanover Aphasia Self-Help Group (ASHG)

For around 20 years, there has been a cooperation between the regional self-help group of the Lower Saxony State Association for the Rehabilitation of Aphasia Sufferers (ASHG) and the Department of Speech-Language Therapy and Inclusive Education. Special education students (primarily those specialising in language) volunteer at the ASHG. They offer participants therapeutic and playful interventions for language and communication in small groups. Alternating with the ASHG meetings, accompanying case supervision takes place at the institute.

The cooperation offers advantages for both sides: Students have the opportunity to

    • Establish initial contact with people with neurological speech, language and communication disorders.
    • Gain insights into life with these disorders.
    • Gain experience in dealing with them.
    • Combine theoretical knowledge with practical experience.

Design, implement and evaluate programmes for people with speech, language and communication disorders

    ASHG participants

    • can establish contacts with other affected individuals and exchange ideas.
    • receive offers to promote speech, language and communication skills in small groups.
    • experience joint activities in the group (excursions, lectures, etc.).

Relatives are also welcome at ASHG and will find opportunities to exchange ideas with like-minded people.

We are always looking for new students who would like to work with us.

If you are interested in working with the ASHG or would like further information, please do not hesitate to contact us!

    Dates

    • Visits to the ASHG: every 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month from 10-11 a.m.
    • Case supervision: usually once a month during the lecture period or as required

Project management and supervision of students: Amulya Sathish.

  • Therapies at Hochschul-Ambulanz

Speech therapy services at the Hochschul-Ambulanz for neurological speech, language and communication disorders

In the Master's programme in Special Education and Rehabilitation Sciences with a focus on Speech and Communication Therapy (M.A. SKT), students are trained with the aim of being able to work in speech therapy practice, among other things. After successfully completing the theoretical courses on neurologically-induced language, speech and voice disorders, students have the opportunity to supervise their own therapies in teams of two. The aim is for students to be able to put the theoretical knowledge they have acquired in the seminars into practice in the diagnosis, planning, implementation and reflection of speech therapy measures. The programmes are planned and implemented jointly as a team and reflected upon under supervision.

Are you interested in receiving therapy accompanied by students at the university outpatient clinic?

Are you studying special education with a focus on speech, language and communication therapy and would like to gain practical experience in the treatment of neurological speech, language and voice disorders?

Then please feel free to contact us!
